Shostakovich 5th, Mahler's 2nd., Panis Angelicus, Mozart's Mass in C "The Kyrie". Musical Moments Most Memorable Mainly with Sun Life Band. Swiss tour; Playing at the very last Belle Vue British Open Contest; Every Albert Hall appearance. Most Embarrassing When helping to organise the Canford Summer School of Music Brass Band Course with James Watson and the Black Dyke Principals, taking the stage to play 'Variations on a 9th' and realising I had left my mouthpiece in my case. I had to start the piece with a borrowed pea-shooter of a mouthpiece and was able to swap to my own halfway through. Luckily, I held the 'big-cadenza' together. |

Rouillier1st Baritone Previous Bands: Oakmead School Band Viking Youth Brass Wessex Youth Band Poole Borough Band Bournemouth T.A. Nickname: 'Bradders' (Though I'm not keen on it!). Prefer Brad to Bradley Favourites Brass Band: None in particular. Brass Band Composition: Comedy Overture (Ireland), Prizewinners (Sparke), Dances & Arias (Gregson) Too many to mention but anything by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky or Shostakovich. Also Copeland & Howard Hanson. Huge interest in Film Scores, in particular those of the late great Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry and, of course, Mr. Williams. Chill out to 60's funk. Musical Moments Most Memorable Having massed bands play my arrangement of 'Liberty Fanfare' at my own wedding. Most Embarrassing I'm always embarrassed, especially where my wife Louise is concerned! |

Hartley2nd Baritone (Pictured RHS with his brother) Previous Bands: Lydbrook Berry Hill John Thompson Works Winfield Transport Langley Downton Nickname: At school "Jammy". At Downton "Doc" or "Prof". I hate "Pete". Favourites Brass Band: None in particular but The Cory Band (Then BAYV) at the Cheltenham Festival were something else. Brass Band Composition: Contest Music (Heaton) Variations on an Enigma (Sparke) Paganini Variations (Wilby) Almost anything by Stravinsky, Grieg or Sibelius, plus 100s of other classics. And the Count Basie Band of the 1960s. And Spike Jones and his City Slickers. And ... Musical Moments Most Memorable 1) Playing at the National Finals (lower sections) as a teenager with Berry Hill Band, father conducting and brothers also playing. 2) Principal Euphonium of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain 1958-9 playing opposite Principal Cornet John Berryman and David James. 3) Playing Gordon Langford's "Rhapsody for Trombone" from memory at the Regent Centre with BCB and Nigel Taken. 3) Listening to Brett Baker play the Trombone solo I'd written for him. 4) Standing up at the end of BCB's performance of "Eden" at the RAH, October 2005. Most Embarrassing Can't think of any funny ones and I try not to think about the others |
