The Band Today The band is the latest incarnation of one that has existed for over 100 years, having progressed in status from a lowly town band to one of the finest in southern England. Our annual schedule consists of a programme of well-established concerts in local theatre-style venues, other engagements as they arise, and a number of competitions, known in the brass band world as contests. As a measure of our status, the band has recently been graded 27th in the rankings of UK brass bands (of which there are some 600 active bands). In October 2005, as West of England Champions, the band achieved a long-held ambition to appear at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall. Recently Bournemouth
Concert Brass has been fortunate to work with a number of first-class
conductors, including Lt Col Chris Davis OBE (Principal Director of Music,
Royal Marines), David Hayward (ex-resident conductor of the SWT Woodfalls
band and now a successful freelance conductor), Glen Jones (Director of
Music, Parachute Regiment) and Nigel Taken (Musical Director of the Aveley
& Newham Band). Rehearsals Click
